Switch Rakuten/Ebates Account to Earn Membership Rewards Points

Rakuten (formerly known as Ebates), recently introduced a different account. It lets you earn Membership Rewards points instead of cashback. One issue with this was that the new account was only available for new customers who sign up for it (there’s also a 1,500 points bonus). If you already have a cashbacj version, you could not switch over.

But now Rakuten has finally made that possible. Yo ucan just go to your Account Setting and there you will see this new option, “Switch to Membership Rewards points”.

Many people value Membership Rewards points at least 1.5 cents or more. The Membership Rewards earning account earns 1 MR points instead of 1c. So frequent travelers who can transfer points to partners will surely prefer the new option. If you’re not satisfied you can always switch back.

It’s also great news for those who have the Ebates card. They no longer have to cancel the card and reaply to be able to earn Membership Rewards points.

Just be aware that while you will be able to earn points once you switch, cashback that you have already earned with not be converted to Membership Rewards points.
