This is a reminder that you have until March 31st to hit the required spending amount to maximize the cashback in your Chase Freedom and Discover card .
While there are different categories for each card, they have one thing in common: They all require that you activate the cashback category each quarter to be eligible to receive it.
I made the big mistake and forgot to activate the cashback on my Chase Freedom card, and was surprised to find out that they I had not earned the 5% cashback when the statement cut last week. Do not make the same mistake.
Below is a link for the activation for each card and a breakdown of the 5% cashback categories:
CHASE FREEDOM: GROCERY STORES, MOVIE THEATERS AND STARBUCKS
Spending categories : Grocery stores. This is the easiest category to meet the $1,500 spending limit. You can buy 3 gift cards at your grocery store and liquidate them through the known methods.
Starbucks : This is a little bit harder, unless you are a blogger like me who drinks 10 cups of coffee every day.
Movie Theaters.
DISCOVER IT: GAS STATION AND GROUND TRANSPORTATION
Gas stations: While most 7-11’s are hard-coded to only allow cash purchases for gift cards, there are many other 7-11 who will allow credit card purchases on gift cards. Speedways stations also allow credit card purchases.
Ground Transportation: If you are an avid UBER user, you might find this category useful.
